A Catholic school, a turbulent political moment and a group of transgressive filmmakers. The feature film The Good Cinema combines these three elements to tell the story of the emergence of Cinema Marginal, also known as Cinema Pós-Novo or Cinema de Invenção. The film introduces the viewer to the creation of the first higher education film school in São Paulo, a key piece in the genesis of this movement. From the perspective of one of its students, director Carlos Reichenbach, The Good Cinema connects the memories of this filmmaker, his early career films, Rogério Sganzerla's ideas and the production of Boca do Lixo in the late 1960s.
